Some time ago I made a shelf for my slot cars; it was made from some left over timber I had, and was adequate at the time, however as the collection grows (and in differing scales!) I've found the need to build a larger and more robust shelf.
The construction was relatively simply, consisting of a couple of pieces of pine, and a sheet of MDF; I set the jigsaw to just under the width of the pine, then used a 12mm router bit to create a slot at what will be the front of the shelf. I made a measurement on the pine, then calculated how many shelves I would need to fill this (mine were 15cm apart), the routed the slot, and cut a piece off the board to form a shelf, repeating as needed. Next I drilled and attached the shelves, first doing the outermost (top and bottom) shelf, then using a square and spirit level to make sure all was in line.
While it's not perfect, it took me a couple of hours to put together, and a couple of weekends with some paint and about $au25 in wood and screws.
